It’s time for another trip down memory lane…
Tonight I have been going through old documents on my computer. I am a sentimental hoarder and I am so thankful for that; because of it I get to relive some of the best and some of the most difficult days of my life. Reading about days that I never want to relive allows me to see how far I have come. I think that everyone should keep a journal for at least a part of their life. I am a different person now compared to five years ago or even just one year ago. God has shown me incredible things and brought me through all kinds of circumstances. Life is good because in the end, I serve an amazing God who has a purpose for my life. I am on this earth for a reason and it is such a wonderful concept to think that I get to serve the creator of the universe.
I wrote this several years ago and submitted it to my high school’s fine arts program my senior year of high school. While I am not sure what I think of the poem because I am my own worst critic, it has a point. No matter how difficult life gets, no matter how unworthy you feel, no matter what others think of you there is only one opinion that matters. We are children of God and He longs to heal us, protect us, and use us for His glory.
One of Those Days
Where life seems to fall apart
Everything seems broken, mostly my heart.
Pain seeps in through every crack
Happiness is everything I lack.
Hope seems too far to see.
Joyful is what I long to be.
The empty feeling overtakes my heart,
Inhibiting me to restart.
As the weight becomes more than I can bear,
Too ugly to continue to wear.
I need a sense of relief
I’m not good enough, an old belief.
A nudge, a pull, in the right direction.
A Savior’s love killing the deception
Telling me I am more than enough
Giving me the strength to be tough.
Still I fight and fight.
Tossing and turning every night.
Knowing He is all I need.
In the right direction, He will lead.
Stubbornness leading me astray
Determined to find another way
Until I hear His voice calling my name,
Telling me to let go of the shame.
He fought for me,
It took me so long to see.
I couldn’t comprehend,
It was He who offered a hand to lend.
All the wrongs in my book
He erased, never again to look.
All the pain of my past
He has taken; I have seen its last.
On my cheek I feel a tear.
Why couldn’t I hear,
His words reminding, He made ME
Because of that, I am everything I need to be.
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
